Cool. My friend is using a GT-R intercooler in his r32 so maybe you could look at that as an option?
Hello I have been lurking a little, to find little bits of information you guys have a good forum here. I am posting this for a mate, this is his BMW E36. I am helping put in is putting a RB20DET engine and associated 5 speed his car and money, I do all the fab work and together we should come up with a nice final package. Things to happen along the way will be installation of a pretty basic brake upgrade, new gauges inside, 450x350x76 FMIC and a custom rear sump its a tight fit around the powersteering and crossmember.
Anyway I know all like photos.
Here is a view of the new gearbox crossmember, this particular BMW was an auto, we are using the Nissan Skyline R32 5 Speed.
Another view of the above item.
Here it is installed, the mount looks twisted this is because the engine was lent over at the time of the photo. All is sweet now.
2.0L of Nissan FI goodness, engine is sitting in its final location.
Side view, not a lot of room left lengthwise.
Any questions just ask. Today I will make a start on the engine mounts.

Thanks everyone, well today we made a start on the engine mounts, we are using Nissan Patrol engine mount rubbers, these are huge and hopefully wont break in a hurry.
Well again, everybody loves pictures
Some pieces of plate cut out and drilled to begin making the crossmember mounts. These are all cut with a grinder, dont have the luxury of a plasma cutter like at work.
Passenger side mount tacked together
Left and right L profiles welded and smoothed
We then removed the stock crossmember out of the beamer
Here it is with the new mounts in place and welded. Notice how a 3rd plate has been added to box the mount in.
Close up of passenger side mount welded and smoothed on the crossmember.
Same thing from a different angle.
Painted ready for reinstallation.
Here it is reinstalled and Nissan Patrol rubbers in place.
Tommorow night it is time to make the mounts to the block and mount the intercooler ready for piping on tuesday![]()
Woops, another angle you might be intersted in.

Well another night another update, just stepped back in the door (12.30am) after starting at 8.00pm.
We are both pretty happy with were we are now with the project, the engine now rests with no jacks under it to hold it up
Now some pictures
While at work today I drew these plates up and had them cut to save me some time, and it did!
It sure beats cutting it out of my 4mm sheet I have
Ok now some tech, notice the plate on the block and the plate on the engine mount rubber.
Now we cut and shape a plate to fill the void.
Now here is the mount tacked ready for welding out.
Welded out about to be painted.
Reinstalled
Then the same process will produce the other side mount.
Top view.
Front view.
Told you it was a tight fit around the powersteering crossmember.
Ok unfortuanately we wont be working on it tommorow but will be back on it wednesday.
Let us know what you think!
